We traveled to Angola for two weeks last month. Although Helena was there earlier this year, this was my first visit in over three years due to the pandemic and travel restrictions. It was a busy two weeks with several meetings, and unexpected encounters with listeners, that gave me the privilege of hearing how the programs are impacting their lives.
The first chance encounter happened at a restaurant in the city of Luanda. I had a meeting with a pastor at the restaurant and while there, I met a young man that was sitting at a table near us. He turned out to be a listener of the National Radio station that airs our programs and mentioned that he has been an avid follower since he was a teenager.
In another encounter, I was introduced to the Secretary General of the Huila province. We had a wonderful conversation during a visit to his office, and I discovered that he has listened to the Yeva Ondaka program for decades. As a young boy, his father used to send him to the store to buy batteries for their radio so they could tune in to the broadcast. Their home eventually became a gathering place for the neighborhood to go and listen to the program as well.
There were two ladies that I met at a church who also had touching testimonies. One lady started listening to the programs when she was 40 and continues to tune in faithfully every week now for 25 years. The second lady came to Christ through the Yeva Ondaka program and is now a deaconess at her church. She was living in a refugee camp when she was first introduced to the program. Years later, although her life has changed considerably with the return to her homeland, what hasn’t changed is her dedication to hearing the Word of God on the radio. She was grateful for the opportunity to share what the gospel has done in her life.
Meeting listeners and seeing what God is doing continues to be one of the reasons these trips are so gratifying and worthwhile. Isac
No mês passado viajamos para Angola por duas semanas. Embora Helena tenha estado lá no início deste ano, esta foi a minha primeira visita em mais de três anos devido a pandemia e às restrições de viagem. Foram duas semanas ocupadas com várias reuniões e encontros inesperados com ouvintes que me deram o privilégio de ouvir como os programas estão causando impacto na vida deles.
O primeiro encontro inesperado aconteceu em um restaurante na cidade de Luanda. Eu tive uma reunião com um pastor no restaurante e enquanto estava lá, conheci um jovem que estava sentado à mesa perto de nós. Ele era um ouvinte da Rádio Nacional que transmite os nossos programas e mencionou que é um ávido seguidor desde adolescente.
Em um outro encontro, fui apresentado ao Secretário Geral da província de Huila. Durante uma visita ao escritório dele, tivemos uma conversa maravilhosa e descobri que ele é ouvinte do programa Yeva Ondaka há décadas. Quando era jovem, o pai dele costumava mandá-lo à loja comprar pilhas para o rádio para sintonizar as transmissões do programa. A casa dele acabou se tornando um ponto de encontro para a vizinhança ouvir o programa.
Conheci duas senhoras em uma igreja que também tinham testemunhos comoventes. A primeira senhora começou a ouvir os programas quando tinha 40 anos e fielmente continua a sintonizar todas as semanas há 25 anos. A segunda veio à Cristo através do programa Yeva Ondaka e agora é diaconisa na igreja dela. Ela estava vivendo em um campo de refugiados quando foi apresentada pela primeira vez aos programas. Anos depois, embora sua vida tenha mudado consideravelmente com o retorno à terra natal, o que não mudou foi sua dedicação de ouvir a Palavra de Deus no rádio. Ela ficou agradecida pela oportunidade de compartilhar o que o evangelho fez em sua vida.
Conhecer ouvintes e ver o que Deus está fazendo continua sendo uma das razões pelas quais essas viagens são tão gratificantes e valiosas. Isac
