In 1 Corinthians chapter 1 verse 18, the Apostle Paul says: “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” As a symbol, the cross speaks because Jesus Christ, the only son of God, died by crucifixion for our sins.
I’m not talking about mythology, or false ideas that distort the reality of the cross. The cross is not a sphinx. A sphinx is a mythological statue that usually has the head of a human but the body of a lion. One still exists near the Cheops pyramid in Egypt and it is seventeen meters tall. 
It is said that this Sphinx spoke riddles, and would devour travelers who could not decipher them; until one day, there appeared a hero with swollen feet called Oedipus. The Sphinx presented him with a riddle saying: Which animal has four legs in the morning, two at noon and three at night? Oedipus answered that this animal is man because in the morning of life, after birth, he begins to crawl using his legs and arms; at noon, in the prime of life, he only needs his two feet; and at night, in his old age, he needs a cane, as if it were a third leg, to get around. With this wise reply from Oedipus, the Sphinx was silenced forever.
The cross of Christ does not present riddles like the Sphinx in Egypt. The cross settles once and for all the mystery of salvation by grace, for all travelers in the world that come to Christ through faith. The cross solves the enigma of divine forgiveness for our sins. It does not kill those who draw near to Jesus, like the Sphinx in Egypt devoured those who couldn’t decipher her riddles. The cross speaks and points to Jesus; who has the power to revive men and women who are dead in their sins, and give them a life full of joy, faith, salvation, and hope of eternal life with God. “The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to the saved, it is the power of God.”
On this Easter, meditate on the message of the cross and find happiness in Christ.

Em I Coríntios capítulo 1 versículo 18, Apóstolo Paulo diz: “Porque a palavra da cruz é loucura para os que perecem, mas para nós que somos salvos, é o poder de Deus.” A Cruz de Cristo como símbolo fala porque nela foi crucificado Jesus o único Filho de Deus que morreu pelos nossos pecados.
Não estou a falar de mitologia, ou seja falar de ideias falsas que distorcem a realidade dos factos da cruz. A cruz de Cristo não e uma esfinge. Esfinge e uma estátua mitologica que normalmente tem a cabeça humana, mas o corpo de leão. Uma delas permanece em pé até hoje, perto da pirâmide Quéops no Egito e tem 17 metros de altura. 
Dizem que essa esfinge falava enigmas e que devorava os viajantes, que não conseguissem decifrar suas enigmas, até que um dia apareceu um herói de pés inchados chamado Édipo. A esfinge apresentou-lhe o enigma dizendo: Qual e o animal que de manhã tem quatro pés, ao meio dia tem dois e a noite tem três? Édipo respondeu que esse animal é o homem, porque na manhã da vida, ao nascer começa a engatinhar usando os pés e os braços; ao meio dia, isto é no vigor da vida, só precisa de dois pés, é a noite, isto é na velhice, precisa de uma bengala para se mover, como se fosse a terceira perna. Com esta sábia resposta de Édipo, a esfinge ficou muda para sempre.
A cruz de Cristo não propoe enigmas como a esfinge do Egito. A cruz de Cristo resolve de uma vez por todas o enigma da salvação pela graça, de todos os viajantes deste mundo que se achegam a Cristo por meio da fé. A cruz de Cristo resolve o enigma do perdão Divino dos nossos pecados. A Cruz não mata aqueles que se achegam a Jesus, como a esfinge do Egito devorava os que não decifravam os enigmas dela. A cruz de Cristo fala e aponta para Jesus que tem poder de ressuscitar homens e mulheres mortos em seus pecados para dar-lhes vida cheia de alegria neste mundo, fé, salvação e esperança da vida eternal com Deus. “A Palavra da Cruz é loucura para os que perecem, mas para os salvos, é o poder de Deus.”
